Block train and ground purchase in Poland
As earlier reported, SCHMIDT was charged with the operations of the on-site container terminal at the BOP production site in Plock, Poland, as well as the organisation of a weekly block train. The facility
comprises a surface of 6.400 m² which accommodates up to 320 30’-Boxcontainer units and is operated in a 2-shift system.
Since mid-December, 2005, a weekly block train shuttles between Plock and the SCHMIDT logistics centre in
Grosslehna (near Leipzig), Germany. Each week about 1.250 tons of HDPE (High density polyethylene) a Hostalen brand product, are transported by rail, which is a considerable contribution to avoid environmental pollution.
The
SCHMIDT Grosslehna facility comprises 5.200 m² of warehouse capacity, a silo battery with 102 units and a capacity of 39.750 m³, as well as container storage surface accommodating up to 500 TEU, and therefore is an ideal place for
intermediate handling and warehousing of dry-bulk products. It’s location in Eastern Germany guarantees easy access for the distribution of products to destinations in Central and Western parts of Europe.
Poland, which is currently
the most important market in Eastern Europe, has a strategic importance for the further company development in this growing market. As following step, a few weeks ago, SCHMIDT has purchased a site of 4 hectares in the Plock area, adjacent
to the BOP production facility, in order to upgrade infrastructure. Soon, a modern tank cleaning facility will be erected as well as another SCHMIDT branch office.
