


New Schmidt construction project:
Silo complex within the Bayer chemical site at Dormagen
SCHMIDT is currently erecting a new silo complex at the Bayer Dormagen chemical site at total costs of about EUR 3.7 million. The new silo battery comprising 40 units with a capacity of 340 m³ each, is constructed on a total surface of
3.900 m².
The project contract was signed by Mr. Walter Schulz, director of the Bayer Dormagen chemical site, and Mr. Horst Schmidt, partner and managing director of the Schmidt Group on May 14, 2004. The contract signature was also
attended by Dr. Hans-Joachim Kogelnik, director of Global Operations Styrenics of the Bayer MaterialScience division.
The inauguration of the new logistics complex is planned for the first quarter of 2005. Mr. Schulz expressed his
pleasure to have another partner at Dormagen and emphasized the excellent infrastructural facilities and traffic connections of the chemical site.
SCHMIDT has specialised in transportation and storage of bulk products such as
Novodur and Lustran (ABS), which are produced at the Dormagen plant and which belong to the business unit “Styrenic Resins” of the currently arising company LANXESS. These technical thermoplast products are mainly used by automobile,
electronical, high-tech toy and medical equipment productions. LANXESS and the Bayer MaterialScience division are counting to the most important SCHMIDT customers.
Bayer Industry Services (BIS) currently operates chemical production
sites at Leverkusen, Dormagen, Krefeld-Uerdingen and Brunsbuettel. More than 35 production companies and service providers are utilizing the advantages of Germany’s largest chemical site operator with more than 6,000 employees.
With the establishment of the SCHMIDT logistics complex at Dormagen, the number of companies within the chemical site has increased to 11.
