Extension of intermodal transports in the SCHMIDT Group
Since April, 2001, the SCHMIDT Group introduces own container handling equipment at the Ludwigshafen logistics centre. The SCHMIDT Group now operates a full container storage and handling facility adjacent to the Ludwigshafen chemical
production sites and is able to strengthen their position in intermodal transports in this area.
Starting in May, 2001, the SCHMIDT Group is extending
intermodal operations in Northern Italy by introducing a
modern container handling and storage facility North West of
Milan, near the Busto Arsizio terminal. By the extension of
intermodal operations in this area, the SCHMIDT Group is
able to achieve a number of improvements. By introducing
an own container handling facility, delivering and loading
bulk containers will be more flexible and thus be optimised
as well as a close representation nearthe customers. The
extension of intermodal transports across the Alps also gives
relief to road transportation, also considering the eco-point
system.
